5 Tips for Spring Cleaning Your Car

Though our Californian winters aren’t nearly as snowy as a typical winter elsewhere, we know that changing temperatures can seriously take a toll on your car’s appearance. With spring just around the corner, we think it’s a good idea to give your car a thorough once-over. To get your car looking as great as the weather this Spring, be sure to utilize these 5 easy spring cleaning tips we’ve compiled, just for you!

  1. Wash the Underbody of Your Vehicle
Driving in the winter can coat the bottom of your vehicle with mud, sand and other unwanted grime. Though you likely can’t see it, it’s definitely not something you should ignore! The grime can cause corrosion on your vehicle, leading to rust problems, which can make your car much harder to resell, and even more dangerous to drive! To combat this problem, be sure to spend a few extra dollars on an undercarriage power wash, at your local car wash. Alternatively, for those on a tight budget, simply spraying the bottom of your vehicle with a hose will do just as well!
  2. Scrub Inside and Out
Treat your car to a thorough cleaning both inside and out this Spring, followed by a well-deserved wax! Nothing looks or feels better than a clean car, after a few long months of Winter. When cleaning the outside of your vehicle, don’t forget to scrub the bottoms of doors and window channels! When completed, apply a layer of silicone spray – this will help repel dirt and lubricate the surfaces so that windows will operate smoothly. For the inside of your vehicle, use a steam cleaner or a rug-cleaning spray to remove any unsightly stains. Not only will your passengers appreciate a clean car, regular car care maintenance like this will also boost your vehicle’s resale value in the long run!
  3. Replace Your Wiper Blades
With the excessive amount of rain this year, your wiper blades have surely received a workout, and are in need of a replacement. Since 90% of your driving decisions are based on a clear, unobstructed view of the road, worn wiper blades are a critical safety concern. If you’re struggling to see out your windshield, we would recommend that you change your windshield wiper blades as soon as possible. For maintenance purposes and your safety, be sure to change them every Spring and Fall, moving forward!
  4. Check Your Tires
For starters, perform weekly visual checks to ensure they’re wearing evenly and have plenty of tread for the rainy spring weather ahead. Be sure to check your tire pressure regularly as well! The varying temperatures from Winter into Spring can cause over inflation in tires. Unfortunately, overinflated tires are just as dangerous as underinflated tires. Not only will driving on properly inflated tires keep you safer on the roads, it will also save you money and a unwelcome headache. Save yourself from unnecessary bills and stress, by utilizing this tip regularly!
  5. Check Your Fluids
Your vehicle’s fluids (such as windshield wiper fluids), typically deplete faster in the Winter. When performing this check, be sure to include brake and transmission fluids as well. If you notice that anything is running low, be proactive and top them off yourself. Remember, it’s better to be safe than sorry!

With Spring right around the corner, we hope our quick list of tips will help you make spring cleaning a breeze! For more advice like this, or general inquiries on automotive refinishing products, be sure to contact a Martin Auto Color location near you today!
