How to Conquer the January Blues

Do you usually feel low and sluggish during the month of January? Don’t worry – this is normal! The Holiday season is officially behind us and, unfortunately, this month does not seem as exciting in comparison. It is also biologically proven that humans tend to feel low on energy during darker months, due to the lack of sunlight. Don’t let the grey month of January get you down, and work towards beating the January blues! We have comprised an easy to-do list so you can start off the new year with a smile.

Go Outside and Smell the Figurative Roses!

Never underestimate the effectiveness of fresh air! It can help clear your mind and energize you for the day ahead. Go for a walk once a day, whether it’s with your dog, your friends or just for some time alone, because it has been proven that walking outside for a few minutes a day can lower stress and improve your mood.

Go for a Walk or a Run!

Was your New Year’s resolution based fitness related? Perfect, because this is a crucial way to avoid feeling sluggish. When you are physically active, the “happy” hormone serotonin is released in your body. This is a fantastic way to boost your mood and your motivation!  It doesn’t have to be an intense workout, either! All you need is some physical exercise to decrease anxiety and increase your energy level. Take a Zumba or yoga class with your friends, or even play a sport with your family. There are so many ways to be active and have a great time. Luckily, our climate allows for outdoor activities during the winter, so take advantage.

Eat Well & Feel Well.

The holidays tend to push us into bad eating habits during the winter, which, in turn, affects our mood. Break out of these bad eating habits ASAP, as they will only get worse the longer you keep them. There are certain foods that you can eat that will directly impact your mood, such as dairy, eggs and fish, which are high in vitamin D. Studies show that Vitamin D actually has mood boosting effects! It will not only give you energy, but will also strengthen your immune system.

Do Something New!

With winter comes routine, so let’s use 2017 to break the pattern of your day-to-day life and try something new! It doesn’t have to be something full or risk or costing a lot of money, as it can be as simple as reading a new book! Find something to suit your personal preference that will excite you. In doing something new, you can bring joy and excitement into your daily routine.

January may be a month of shorter days and colder weather, but we hope this list has helped you make the best of it! For more helpful advice or information about our automotive refinishing products, contact a Martin Auto Color location near you!
