4 Thanksgiving Tips Every Driver Should Know

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is fast approaching, which means that many people will be headed out of town or on road trips to see their families. This also means an increased amount of reckless drivers, and an increased amount of accidents. We at Martin Auto Color believe that your safety should always be a priority. So, we’ve compiled a short list of Thanksgiving reminders that we think every driver should remember!

  1. Avoid Distracted Driving

We all know the how tempting it can be to adjust your GPS on the road or to want to check your text messages/calls while driving. However, with an increased amount of traffic on the roads this Thanksgiving, you’ll want to avoid driving distracted at all costs! Before heading to your destination, let family and friends know that you will be driving, so that they won’t blow up your phone during your trip. If you desperately need to use your phone for navigation purposes or even to make a call or send a message, ask your passengers for assistance! Chances are, they are more than willing to help, if that means arriving safely to your destination!

  1. Be Well Rested!

I know this seems like an easy one, but driver fatigue is one of the most reported reasons for collisions this time of the year. For many, stuffing their face with (way too much) turkey and staying up late with family is the standard for Thanksgiving Weekend. Therefore, driving home after a couple days of that cycle usually takes a toll on drivers. While an extra large coffee may help, our recommended alternative is to pull over in a safe area and rest. You might be amazed at how quickly your body can rejuvenate with a little bit of sleep!

  1. Don’t Drink and Drive

It is completely understandable to want a drink or two over Thanksgiving, however, it is not ok to get behind the wheel after those drinks! If you really need to get somewhere that same night, plan ahead and assign a designated driver! Otherwise, make plans to stay at a friend or family’s place for the night and get back on the roads when you’ve sobered up! You can also always take a cab or an Uber! For extra safety, many municipalities will have multiple DUI checkpoints and patrols over the holiday, so don’t get caught in one!

  1. Slow Down

After a long weekend, you will desperately want to make it home to your bed, but we would like to remind you to take a breath and slow down on the roads. Getting home 10 minutes earlier than scheduled is not worth getting a ticket or endangering other people’s lives.

Our team would like to wish you all a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving! For more information on any of our automotive refinishing products or how we can help grow your business, reach out to a Martin Auto Color location near you!
