Out With the Old and In With the New

YELLOW-CAR

Yellow … it’s a happy, optimistic color! It reminds us of sunflowers and daffodils, lemons, sunshine and happy faces.

One particular yellow, however, is going away for good. That’s right PPGÒ Refinish is phasing out its Deltron brand Light Chrome Yellow. An inventory management notification issued June 22 says that the product will be discontinued in 90 days. The color will be available until existing supplies sell out. Sadly, for this yellow, there isn’t a suggested replacement.

Joining Light Chrome Yellow on its way out the door is the gallon-size Global Refinish System D846 Degreasing Agent for Plastics. As with the paint color, the degreasing agent will be available until supplies are depleted. Unlike the discontinued yellow, you have a recommended replacement. You can substitute ONECHOICEⓇSX103. You’ll want to refer to your product data sheet for guidance on proper usage of the suggested replacement product.

New on the horizon are two clearcoat products.

On June 1st, PPGⓇ Refinish launched AQUABASE Plus Compatible P190-6950 Extended Performance Clearcoat. Part of the NEXA AUTOCOLORⓇ line of products, it was engineered specifically for use over AQUABASEⓇ Plus waterborne basecoat and is best called into action on larger repairs, according to the company. It has superior flow and leveling characteristics, a simple mix ratio and uses the same hardeners and thinners as P190-6930. According to the company, the new product results in “a clearcoat that delivers unrivaled gloss and exceptional appearance on multi-panel repairs and overall paint jobs with no polishing required.”

“We’re confident that customers will find that this new clearcoat gives them unsurpassed quality and a significant production advantage,” Tim Jones, Automotive Refinish segment manager, shared in the product release announcement.

The company also launched a second clearcoat in its Envirobase line. Auto body shops now have EC550 En-VⓇ Ultra Gloss Clearcoat for Envirobase High Performance waterborne basecoat. According to PPG Refinish, it can be successfully applied in all conditions and no polishing is required. It boasts ease of use and outstanding gloss. EC550 En-VⓇ Ultra Gloss Clearcoat – with its exceptional gloss retention, excellent flow and leveling qualities – is best for overalls and multi-panel applications, notes PPG Refinish.

“We’ve given EC550 En-V Ultra Gloss all the attributes PPGⓇ customers have asked for,” said Tim Jones, Automotive Refinish segment manager. “It’s production-friendly, easy to apply and yields an unmatched luxurious gloss. It’s exactly what a premium Envirobase High Performance clearcoat should be.”
